3 Simple Recipes For Leftover Dal

 

Dal is one of the favorite staples in Indian households. Usually, we end cooking surplus dal so that there is enough for everyone. However, it leads to leftover dal which is mostly ignored and wasted. Leftover dal is a big concern, especially for those who want to cut back on wastage.

To help you solve the problem of ‘what to do with leftover dal,’ the blog explains three simple leftover dal recipes.



Dal chilla

Ingredients

·         Leftover dal – 1 cup

·         Onion – 1 (finely chopped)

·         Green chilli – 1 (finely chopped)

·         Besan – 1/2 cup

·         Rice flour – 5 teaspoons

·         Salt to taste

·         Chopped coriander leaves – 1/2 teaspoon

·         Oil as required

Steps

·         Take a mixing bowl, add all the ingredients, whisk it well to make a smooth mixture.

·         Take a tawa, heat it, drizzle some oil on it, add a spoonful of batter, spread it in a circular shape.

·         Drizzle oil whenever required and cook it from both the sides evenly.

·         Turn the flame off and serve hot.

Pooran podi

Ingredients

·         Toor dal (boiled without salt) – 1 bowl

·         Chopped jaggery – 3/4 cup

·         Nutmeg powder – 1/4 teaspoon

·         Desi ghee – 2 teaspoons

·         Multigrain flour – 2 teaspoons

·         Finely grinded cardamom powder – 1 pinch

·         Water for kneading (as per the requirement)

·         Ghee for toasting pooran podi (as per the requirement)

Steps

·         Take a kadhai and put it on a medium flame. Add ghee and boiled dal to sauté it until it turns golden.

·         Add the chopped jaggery, mix it well, and let it dissolve completely.

·         Add the nutmeg powder to the mixture and mix it well.

·         Sauté till the jagger water gets evaporated. 

·         Add the pinch of cardamom powder. Mash it and sauté it until you get a thick mixture. Leave it to cool down.

·         Knead the dough well. Create small-sized dough balls and roll it like poori.

·         After rolling it evenly, stuff it with 2 teaspoons of the mixture, seal it well and roll it again.

·         Take a tawa and put it on a medium flame. Place the stuffed and rolled poori on it and cook it evenly from both sides.

·         Add some ghee on poori, spread it and toast it from both the sides.

·         Pooran podi is ready, cut it in half and serve hot. 

Dal parantha

Ingredients

·         Leftover dal – 1 cup

·         Wheat flour – 2 cups

·         Some coriander leaves – finely chopped

·         Cumin seeds – 1/2 teaspoon

·         Oil as required

·         Salt to taste

·         Water as required

Steps

·         Take a mixing bowl and add flour, leftover dal, coriander leaves, salt, and spices. Mix well, add water, and knead it well to make a soft dough.

·         Take a tawa, create small balls from the dough and roll it evenly and then spread it on the tawa.

·         Apply the cooking oil and cook well from both the sides until the layer turns crispy.

·         Serve hot with curd.
